Country Study on Democracy now available

07/02/2011

What is democracy?

Living in a democratic country is a privilege that not all global citizens are able to enjoy. For those of us who do, we can often talk about democracy and some of the rights that it includes, but not define it.

A new country study presentation, titled “What is Democracy?”  is now available on the Kirovohad Oblast Library Window on America page.  It provides a general overview of what democracy means. It is meant as an introduction to the concept of democracy and is the first in a series of upcoming presentations related to essential elements of democracy.

Future presentations will focus on the following elements of democracy:

  • Freedom of the Press
  • Rule of Law
  • Governance and Transparency
  • Constitutionalism and Balance of Power
  • Civic Responsibility
  • Ethics
  • Free and Fair Elections
  • Anti-Corruption
  • Human Rights
  • Judicial Impartiality
